Scentwork for Beginners!
Everything you need to know to get you started in Scentwork! Taught by a Scentwork UK and WDSA Instructor and Judge!
Scentwork is a fantastic activity which allows dogs to engage in a pastime that allows them to use their 'super-sense', their amazing olfactory system. With a sense of smell that is 10.000 - 100.000 times stronger than ours - dogs just love using their noses!
Why do scentwork with your dog?

Let's start by telling you a bit about this course....
This course is aimed at people and dogs who are new to scentwork, or people who are looking to improve their existing cues and behaviours.
Your dog will love training with you - and it's lots of fun!
Whether you intend to compete, or not - there are many benefits to teaching your dog these fun exercises...
As part of the course we will be teaching our dogs
As part of the course we will be teaching our dogs
- To search a given area when asked using the 'find it' cue.
- To wait and listen to instruction.
- To search for food initially before introducing our target odour - Cloves.
- To offer a passive indication or 'Freeze' when they find the odour they are searching for.
- To ignore distractions and focus on the job they are doing!
We'll also introduce different search areas, including those used in Scentwork UK trials (Both In person and Online Trial Areas) Table and Chairs and Household items, Exterior Searches, Kitchen Cupboards, Boxes and Bags, Vehicles, Walls and Fences.
We will teach you the skills to need to teach your dog to be scentwork pros!
This 6 week course is organised into weekly blocks, with new things to work on EVERYDAY! So lots of things to keep you busy.
If you decide to take a break, or want to take it more slowly - the course is yours for life, so you can go back and watch the tutorials as many times as you like.

Meet your trainer:
Katie Harvey
Katie has competed with her own dogs in Rally Obedience, Agility and Scentwork UK Trials. She is a Scentwork UK Level 1 - 4 Trainer, Trial Organiser and Judge.
She has also recently completed a 6 month course with the WSDA - World Scent Dog Association and is currently doing her Maintrailing UK Instructor Course.
Katie loves doing scentwork with her two Labradors and Spaniel Millie!
This course was designed and written by Katie, for anyone who wants to find out more about scentwork and who loves spending time with their dogs.
